Hello,

Just watched your video previewing the HD 178. I bought one last summer and is a good little video camera. The only problem I have with it is burning a DVD to view on my home DVD players. I’ve downloaded all types of video converting software and burned many DVD (-r) and non will play and the 3 different home players.

Have you tried to burn a DVD and play on your home DVD player?? If so, what software did you use to do so and were there any tips in would need to know??

Thanks for your help!

Hi Mike,

As a matter of fact I just burned some video I shot at the Nebraska state ARRL convention to DVD for the radio club that hosted it.

When burning the video to DVD I use Nero 7 Premium using the StartSmart interface, selecting the Photo & Video icon, and then choosing Make Your Own DVD Video which will open Nero. Then I select the add video and go to the directory on my computer where I have the video files that I pulled off the camera ( works faster on an internal drive than off the camera when Nero recodes the video).

After I have the files I want to burn selected and they show in the content section I rearrange them by dragging them where I want the clip to be and click next at the bottom right of the window which will move to the DVD menu editor. After done editing the menu click next again and it will give a preview of the menu were you can test the selection an playing of the clips as it would be if it were an actual DVD.

When you have the menu the way you like click next again and it should give you the option to burn to disk, or make an image which is handy if you need to make multiple disks of the same content, ie: home movies to share with family, business presentations, etc.

So far this has been the simplest solution I have found as Nero supports just about every video and audio codec out there without having to download and tinker with codec software such as ffdshow which is what I have to do every time I want to edit something into or “stitch” together clips in editing software.

I will say using ArcSoft Media Converter that came on the disk supplied with the camera has also come in handy for converting the video format the camera records in (H.264 avi), to one easily recognizable by Movie Maker on my XP machine and IMovie on my Mac.

For straight clip to DVD burning Nero is my choice. It may not be free, but after figuring out the time it has saved me from playing around with getting codec packages set just right for each video clip, which could take hours depending on the output I was after quality wise, then time spent encoding and burning, it has pretty much paid for itself. If I’m right Nero can also combine multiple clips into one but I have yet to try it.

Hope this helps and thanks for the email and watching my videos.

New additions…

Category: Uncategorized

I spent my day playing with a few new things, a couple widget additions like the below audio addition and one to send a twitter message when I make a new entry here.

I also added a store where my music can be purchased and downloaded as a DRM free mp3. The store is still in a sort of beta stage so if any one has issues making purchases let me know via the contact section in the store.

Thanks to all of you for your awesome support and ideas!

Clean Slate…CD Image

Category: Uncategorized

I’ve been wanting to clean out my place here on the web since the first of the year and finally got around to doing so. Bear with me as I make a few tweaks to the look as well. Not too much, just a few visual tweaks here and there. One of which was the image at the top. I got kind of tired of it by the end of the year.

Here is the cover for the CD I have available to the left.

Working on current and new projects which will be available online and compiled on the next CD if releasing at cost physical media (I make no profit on the disk sales) proves to be worth it.

Been having a lot of fun coming up with stuff now that I have a decent keyboard, Arturia’s Minimoog V, and some decent editing software. Was using Garage Band but quickly found some of it’s limitations were holding me back in some areas. Still a good tool though for rough works where I get an idea that it can whip up a basis track quickly.

When I get my desk area situated I’ll shoot a video and share.

Till next post, take care.
Scott
